2022 Register of Interest combined Guitar and Percussion

Dear Parents, Caregivers and Students,
Currently at Kadina Memorial School we have 55 students in Years 5 to 12 attending a weekly, free, 30-minute lesson, to
learn a musical instrument. We strongly encourage students to take up this opportunity as research continually shows
students who learn an instrument, not only do well at music but do better in all curriculum areas.
For 2022, students have the opportunity to register their interest to begin learning one of the following instruments -:
Percussion / Drums (available to new students to IM who will be in years 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 in 2022)
Acoustic Guitar (available to new students to IM who will be in years 6, 8, 9 and 10 in 2022)
Electric Guitar/ Bass Guitar Years 8, 9 and 10 students only
Unfortunately, due to the Year 7 transition to high school occurring next year, Instrumental Music have directed that no
Year 7 student can start an IM lesson in 2022.
Weekly lessons in small groups are provided free by Instrumental Music for guitar and percussion, as well as woodwind
(flute, clarinet etc) and brass (trumpet, etc). These lessons are available right through to year 12. In Senior School more
options are offered to students progressing well, such as the Stage Band and Rock Bands. If students are offered a place
in the IM Programme, they receive a letter containing information on getting set up, ready for 2022. This includes
information about which tutor book to buy (costing approximately $20.00, if necessary). It is recommended that students
have access to a guitar or drum kit at home so they can continue to practice and keep improving on their skills. The school
does not hire out any guitars or drum kits.
Students offered a place in the Percussion IM programme will receive a Learning Contract to sign, which outlines all the
requirements such as:
 Regular practice
 Attending lessons and ensembles- students are responsible to complete classroom learning in their own time
 Parents, Caregivers and especially the students themselves, need to be prepared to put in/support regular practice
to achieve success.
If you would like any more details about the information above, or have any questions, please do not hesitate to see me or
write a note in your child’s diary.
Attached is the reply slip/online registration form for registering your child’s interest in learning Percussion.
If your child already accesses Instrumental Music learning Woodwind or Brass or any other IM programme, then they are
not eligible for studying another IM offered instrument lesson.
