House Spirit Shield

The House Spirit Shield is an initiative to further build a sense of community across R-12, encouraging students to extend their learning and participate in school events to earn points for their house team.

Cassidy Smith and Olivia Brook introduced the new initiative to senior students at Year Level meetings last term and Senior School House Spirit Ambassador Nathaniel Evans presented the shield to the R-6 and Middle School assemblies last term, explaining the many ways students can gain points.

These include:

  • attendance at sports day
  • Interschool & Mile End representation
  • SAPSASA and Knockout Sport selection
  • increasing Lexile levels
  • improvement in Mathletics
  • Premier’s Reading Challenge
  • History and Geography competitions
  • Extra-curricular Music Program, IMS, Choir, recorder participation
  • Generations in Jazz & Battle of the bands’ participation
  • Assembly participation
  • KMSC Members and Mentors
  • 100% attendance at school each term
  • Maths Quiz Night
  • ICAS Competitions
  • Copper Coast or Adelaide Show Team
  • Debating team

“The Spirit Shield isn’t just an award for a team to work towards, it’s also a way of showing you belong to a house group and also to our school,” Nathaniel said.

“The points will be given by teachers for the different personal bests such as academic achievements as well as activities, with myself and Senior School Student Wellbeing Teacher Mrs Kleinig counting and recording the progressive results.

“At the end of the year the winning house captains will get to paint a statue of our school logo in their house colour. The statue will be located near the school bus entrance. All members of the winning house will receive a Zooper Dooper for getting involved.”

The House Spirit Shield will be presented to the winning house at the end of year assemblies.

At the last count, Southwood 127, Heath 123, Rose 117, and Chandler 116.

“There isn’t much between first and fourth so keep putting your hand up to do different activities to help support your house team,” said Nathaniel.

Thank you to Mr Andrew MacDonald for making the House Spirit Shield.
